In Danish, "bro" actually means "bridge" but you may notice the suffix "bro" at the end of popular Copenhagen neighborhood names like "Nørrebro" or "Østerbro." In this case, "bro" doesn’t directly refer to a bridge in the modern sense but rather has a historical context.

These areas were originally established as neighborhoods just outside the city center, across the former moats or ramparts. The term "bro" in these names essentially marked them as extensions outside of the city core, rather than literal bridges.
